Meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Oli
Meeting at Tianjin Guest House
On August 30, 2025, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Nepalese Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli at the Tianjin Guest House. Oli was in China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit and the 80th anniversary of the victory of World War II.
Discussion of Seven Decades of Relations
President Xi recalled the ancient friendship between China and Nepal, connected by mountains and rivers. He said that during the seven decades of diplomatic journey, the two countries have maintained the spirit of cooperation even in difficult times. He stressed that the two countries are now moving towards high-level Belt and Road cooperation.
Commitment to Enhancing Strategic Trust
Xi said that both sides should enhance mutual strategic trust and firmly support each other in important national interests. He believed that it is necessary to expand cooperation in various fields including transportation, energy, telecom, industry, agriculture, education, and health. He also emphasized the need to enhance mutual coordination in multilateral forums and promote fairness and stability.
Nepal's Perspective
Prime Minister Oli said that relations with China have been steadily strengthening. He reiterated Nepal's unwavering commitment to the One-China policy and made it clear that no power would allow Nepali territory to be used against China. Noting that the Belt and Road Initiative has provided Nepal with new opportunities for development, he said that trade, investment, science, technology, tourism and environmental cooperation would be prioritized.
A strong signal for the future
Oli said that he would support China's global development, security and civilization initiatives. He expressed his hope that China would further enhance its international significance, considering the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as a valuable platform. Senior Chinese leaders Cai Qi, Wang Yi and Chen Min'er were also present at the meeting.
